Self-esteem is one of the causalities of becoming single again. In the shift from being part of couple, you can lose your sense of self. You have to develop a new identity incorporating your new single again role (see blog 5 steps to adapt to being single again). It’s also easy to cover some of the pain of loss with keeping busy doing things. Your self-esteem can then become tied to what you do, not who you are.  On the positive side this can be your chance to create the life you want and the person you want to be. Look in the mirror and say out loud, ‘I’m likeable and loveable’

Write a list of the following (and remind yourself you are a human being not just a human doing!);

  • what I like about me
  • my positive character traits.
